In this article, the author has attempted to identify and compare lexical and phraseological means that nominate and describe fear and its various manifestations on the material of the Russian and Kazakh languages, followed by the allocation of general and culturospecific characteristics of this concept. The core of the concept "fear" / "korkynysh", presented in dictionary definitions, coincides in Kazakh and Russian linguistic cultures, representing an emotional state, a natural reaction to danger, an unpleasant sensation. The concept of "fear" / "korkynysh" has various verbal means of representation, revealed as a result of studying paroemias, literary texts. The anthropocentric paradigm of modern linguistics, which shows interest in any manifestations of the human factor in language, expands the possibilities of linguistic research, since it involves the study of language from different positions. Within the framework of the anthropocentric paradigm, there is a need to consider language in relation to human cognitive activity. The tendency towards convergence of scientific disciplines that have emerged at the junction with linguistics is due to the desire for a comprehensive and multidimensional analysis of the phenomena of language and speech.
