THE POETICS OF POSTMODERNISM IN THE LYRICS OF ERBOL ZHUMAGULOV

The article aims to examine the mechanisms and sources of intertexts as a crucial feature of postmodern poetics in the works of contemporary Kazakh poet Yerbol Zhumagulov. It has been found that fiction serves as the most important source of associations for the generation of new meanings: the names of poets and writers, characters and situations from literary works; historical figures and events; and religious and cultural realities. Zhumagulov uses paraphrases, appliqués, epigraphs, allusions, and reminiscences to create a multilayered, profound artistic universe in which Kazakh, classical, and Russian realities, characters, and facts merge into a single whole. The poet borrows not only lexical resources but also the syntactic, rhythmic, and intonational structure of "foreign" poetic lines. The authorship of the intertext is not always indicated, as the reader must possess a certain cultural background to recognize a well-known expression when interpreting Zhumagulov's text.
