Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the “circle of ash” as a hypersign in the novel of the same name by the modern Kazakhstani writer D. Nakipov from the standpoint of transcultural semiotics. The study shows that the image of the circle of ash performs many functions in the text - cosmogonic, symbolic, purifying, memorial, becoming a kind of “knot” of cultural meanings that form a special author's picture of the world. The signs that make up the hypersign – “circle”, “ash” and “fire” – are analyzed in the context of various cultural codes. Special attention is paid to the mythological, historical and religious intertexts found in the narrative. The work may be useful to researchers interested in issues of transculturality, cultural memory and the transformation of symbolic structures in the artistic text of modern Kazakh literature, in particular.
