The article describes the specifi cs of using the association method in a small school for the development of speech culture of students. The low occupancy of SS classes has a
number of advantages that can be rationally and effectively used in daily practical activities. The ability of children of different ages to communicate with each other, building a school according to a family model lead to special relationships that are very diffi cult to organize in a large school, in a small school they arise almost automatically. These advantages of a small school favor the implementation of the associative method, and allow each student to prove himself as a thinking person, able to learn and understand what is being studied, and therefore respect himself.
Associative methodology contributes to activating the cognitive activity of students, develops independence and initiative, forms a conscious interest in the Russian language and literature, which is very important for a small school, since the individual independent work of the student is the dominant form of learning in a classroom-kit, united class.
