PROJECT-BASED MODELING AS A TOOL FOR DEVELOPING STUDENTS’ RESEARCH AND ACADEMIC COMPETENCE

Modernization of the higher education environment is aimed at developing students’ information literacy, critical and creative thinking, communication, and collaboration skills. Traditional lectures and seminars are being integrated with intellectual technologies within the framework of a student-centered approach that encourages learners to acquire knowledge and master material independently.
The authors highlight the relevance of the study through a multi-level approach to the discipline “Historical Commentary on Facts of the Russian Language” within the innovative educational program 6B01708 "Russian Language and Literature in Schools with Russian and Non-Russian Language of Instruction" (IP). The aim of the article is to conduct an etymological study of the lexical-semantic group of bird-related words (ornithonyms) as a specific form of implementing self-directed learning through project-based activity.
The practical significance of the work lies in applying knowledge of the main stages of the Russian language’s historical development and its place in global culture and science. The findings demonstrate that a comprehensive comparative-historical analysis of facts of the Russian language at various levels provides insights into the inner workings of contemporary Russian, enhances students’ creativity, and broadens their linguocultural perspective. The conclusions emphasize the importance of incorporating historical data that explain the internal logic and conditioned nature of linguistic phenomena at different levels.
